The Junior School is committed to each child's education outside of the classroom as well as inside-encouraging them socially, musically, athletically and otherwise.
Team sports are an important part of our curriculum - hockey, tennis and netball, and the school teams take part in interschool competitions at provincial level.
Other sports include athletics, table tennis, fencing and gym club. We are keenly aware of the importance of a healthy and fit lifestyle for our pupils, and every child's timetable includes P.E. classes.
Students can also choose from an array of musical opportunities at Rathdown's newly built Music Centre. Many girls from P5 and P6 join the choir and together with pupils who take lessons in piano, flute, recorder and violin, they perform in the annual Junior School music recital, the Arts week music festival and interschool competitions. All pupils have Music classes as a central part of their curriculum and take part in the Christmas Show and the Christmas Carol Service.
Art is an integral part of the syllabus and enjoyed by all pupils, especially the youngest! The girls enjoy visits from artists, musicians and authors.
Every classroom has its own fiction library and our resource library is well stocked with books, CD ROMs, videos and posters.
We are very aware of the importance of information technology in our ever changing world. Classes P2 - P6 are split into small groups for their weekly computer studies class in our modern well-equipped computer lab. Full use is made of the classroom interactive whiteboards. For the younger children (KG2 - P1) there is an after-school computer club. |
