Rathdown School places a high value on the quality of relationships between students and teachers.

Each student belongs to a Form Class, which is looked after by a Form Teacher and a Form Prefect. Students remain with the same Form Teacher from 1st to 3rd Year and again in 5th and 6th Year. In Transition Year, students are mixed into different Form groups. Form Teachers take a special interest in their form students and students are encouraged to communicate and engage with their Form Teachers.

There is a separate Year Head who takes responsibility for each year group. The Year Head liaises closely with form teachers in the relevant year and generally looks after administrative matters in the Year.

In addition, the School Chaplain, Rev. Tim Irvine, and the Careers and Guidance Teacher, Mrs Mary Costello, play an active role in the school's Pastoral Care programme.
