Rathdown School

Junior Boarding (Age 11+)

Boarding is a happy and contented way of life for many of our students, some joining the school as full-time boarders from the age of eleven.

The Junior boarders attend our Junior School and share the same Boarding House as some of the younger Senior School Boarders. Under the supervision of an experienced team of Matrons, we provide a safe and caring extended family environment where boarders can flourish academically, socially and personally. Boarding and day students alike are encouraged to take part in the busy schedule of weekend and evening activities.

There is always a member of staff on duty, who is clearly visible and easily accessible to the students. The team of resident Matrons are staff that the girls can talk to and seek advice from, and they also deal with pupils’ day-to-day issues, supported by our school nurse.

Staff are very accessible to boarders, supervising their prep, eating meals with them and socialising in the boarding house. This helps to build up the respect and trust of boarders, so that they feel able to consult and confide in staff. This helps the staff get to know pupils and pick up very quickly when something is worrying a pupil.

The boarding houses are comfortable and create a home from home environment with great care and thought put into ensuring that boarding life is organised in a way that gives girls the structure that they need as well as making sure that they have a lot of fun! Boarding allows girls to develop independence and self-discipline in a supportive and kind environment.

For those considering boarding at Rathdown, we hold some Boarding Open Evenings for prospective Junior Boarders which will give your daughter an opportunity to see if boarding life would suit her.
