Junior Cycle
The Junior Cycle caters for students in the 12 to 15-year-old age group
Students normally sit the examinations at the age of 14 or 15 years, after three years of post-primary education.
In First Year students participate in a short subject tasting programme before choosing their optional subjects for Junior Cycle.
Students can opt to study more than one continental language from First Year onwards if they wish.
The Core Curriculum is as follows:
- English
- Irish (unless an exemption is held)
- Mathematics
- Geography
- History
- Science
- Civic, Social and Political Education (CSPE)
Three additional subjects are taken from the following list:
- Design & Communication Graphics
- Art
- French
- German
- Spanish
- Business
- Home Economics
- Music
- Classics
The following non-exam subjects are also included in the curriculum
- Physical Education (PE)
- Social & Personal & Health Education
