Music

A Place of Creativity

We value the development of self-expression and creativity as a key part of the girls' academic and personal development.

The Performing Arts Academy offers top-class facilities where like-minded girls of all years can work together and encourage each other to develop their talents. All members
of Rathdown have outlets for music-making and performing. There are many different ensembles and lots of students receive individual tuition across a wide range of instruments. Though lessons, practice, rehearsals, exams, competitions, performances and recitals the girls are drawn together to make the most of a busy and ambitious musical life.

Music is part of the lifeblood of Rathdown. Our school orchestra and choirs partake in various competitions and performances throughout the year. Our state-of-the-art facilities include a purpose-built auditorium, nine soundproof practice rooms, each with Kawai piano and a Music Technology Laboratory.

Both individual and group tuition is available in singing and a wide variety of instruments, including piano, flute, recorder, violin, cello, guitar, harp, clarinet, saxophone and percussion. Musicianship classes are also available.

A team of dedicated professionals is led by our Director of Performing Arts Academy, Avril Crotty. Music and singing are taught to the highest standard and everyone has the chance to participate in one of our choirs or orchestras. There is a packed performance schedule throughout the academic year.

All our classes and choirs are open to the public, and we are conveniently located in Glenageary, Co. Dublin. We also have an adult’s choir so if you’re passionate about singing please come and join us!
